turkey day

Happy thanksgiving everyone!

Made my first turkey for a lil dinner party I had at my place - went the whole 9 yards with brining it overnight and stuffing it and everything...  it was pretty tasty for my first effort, but I will forever prefer chicken. However, a 12 lbs bird for 8 bucks though.... good deal! (on sale)

who hoo! Just got my first paycheck!

When I actually calculate how much I get paid per hour though... I earn probably as much as someone working at the Gap.. bleh :-p

It could be worse though... a couple of years ago, residents at my program worked typically 100+ hours a week.... so in comparison the 80 hours a week I work is a breeze...

In case some of you all were wondering where I am going to be for the next 3 years... I matched at University of Michigan - Ann Arbor for internal medicine! I'm sooo psyched to be there - it was one of my top choices, and I could not be any happier...

Ahhh... time to relax and do some slacking!

Medical factoids:

- this weeks NEJM showed that glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate has no benefit for people with regular osteoarthritis. This was a large study that was funded by the NIH, compared to previous studies which were small, and funded by the supplement makers that showed some improvement in symptoms.

- last year, a large study showed that echinacea does not prevent or treat colds

- herb saw palmetto does not reduce symptoms of enlarged prostate

So save your money!
